Who are the food lovers behind Flavors of Bogota?
The Flavors of Bogota story is all about love – the love of everything Colombia.
The website and online magazine is the creation of Karen Attman and Peter Corredor. She’s from the United States and he’s from Colombia, and they are both in love with food, coffee, and the growing restaurant scene in Bogota.
Almost twenty-five years ago, Karen left her hometown of Philadelphia to pursue expat life, and she’s still loving it. Now living in Colombia, Karen dedicates most of her time to what she loves: teaching coffee. She’s a coffee professor at Universidad La Sabana in Bogota, she wrote a book on specialty coffee in Colombia, she speaks at coffee expos, is a judge at coffee events, and spreads coffee education through the Flavors of Bogota Specialty Coffee Workshops.
Peter, once chef at a very hectic kitchen in Venezuela, continues to exercise his love of food on a much more personal level. When he’s not administering businesses in Colombia, he’s trying out interesting flavor combinations in his own kitchen, or tasting new dishes thought up by the talented chefs in Colombia.
Coffee love
But Flavors of Bogota goes beyond just food. Our love of coffee and chocolate led us to start our Specialty Coffee Experiences, the original specialty coffee experiences in Colombia.
Now we have a team of passionate coffee lovers from Colombia that lead both locals and visitors to discover the history of coffee, how to taste coffee like a pro, and learn about what’s at the heart of coffee in Colombia.
Welcome to the adventure, please follow along!

Dreams can be fulfilled, one small step at a time. I hope you enjoy reading about my adventures in Bogota!
Hi Karen, thanks for following my blog! Were you looking for the total opposite of where you are?! 😉 Linda.
Thank you! The search is part of the journey, and the key is to enjoy every step.

Yes, us Philly people have to stick together! Even though I left Philly almost twenty years ago for South America, it never stops being home. I look forward to hearing about how your journey goes!
We visited Bogota last year an loved it. You’re very lucky to be living and exploring there.
I’m glad you liked the city. There’s a lot to see, do…and eat here!
Hi, Karen. Nice blog indeed! And thanks a lot for following my photo blog!
Thanks. And you’ve got wonderful photos on your blog!
😉
I can see how fun your life there; no snow, no icy-cold days (how I miss those days!!). They say “home is where your heart is”, then I do have two homes: Washington state and Jakarta (I’m originally from Jakarta, Indonesia). But in both places I learn to be content and COOKING/BAKING!! It’s such a great pleasure to meet you and would love to hear your updates each time. Enjoy your life there…:)
There are cold days here, but the kind that make it pleasant to cuddle up with a good cup of tea, not the freeze-you-to-the-bone days. And when I miss the snow, I go back to the US in January! And as you say, learning to be content is the key – there are positive and negative things everywhere we live. Thanks for visiting!
Hi Karen,
I’m enjoying looking around your blog. I was in Columbia and Bogata for part of my time in high school. You’re bringing back memories. I’m also trying to move out of the US and my only holdup is trying to figure out how to afford it. Still trying to gather information and making trips to try and find the right place for me. Just about had enough of that and ready to just DO IT! Your blog is helping 😉 Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking my photos of the sea 😉
I’d love to help you with whatever info you need about expat life. Sometimes it doesn’t take as much money as you’d think to get started – that’s one of the benefits of moving to countries where the cost of living is lower.

Hey there Karen! You started following my blog so I wanted to check out your blog and say, “Hi.” I must say that your blog is impressive – great writing and lovely photos. I guess it’s what one should expect from a former co-editor of a literary magazine! I really enjoyed your recent post about traveling with your dog. I look forward to more of your posts! Celeste 🙂
Thanks, that’s very sweet of you. I also look forward to reading more about your culinary adventures!
Hi Karen, you have a very interesting blog about one of the dearest cities in my life. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Will
It is a wonderful city, isn’t it? Please keep in touch and let me know what you think of my posts!
Wow, sounds wonderful! You must be eating some really exciting foods. The best thing I had while in Bogota was at a friend’s house – an amazing soup made from several different varieties of potato (Colombia has so many) with sides of shredded chicken, corn, avocado, capers, and cream that you could put into the soup. I’ve been making it at dinner parties for years and it is always a hit. I’d love to learn some more Colombian recipes! I remember being struck by how different the fruit alone was, not to mention all of the other delicious food I tasted while there. Lucky you!! 🙂 Do you do a lot of cookies as well?
Oops – I meant to say cooking! 😉
Karen,
Thanks for taking a peek at my blogs. What an awesome blog you have here! I love finding blogs that make me feel I’m part of a new experience. I suffer mental health challenges that make it hard for me to explore the world, so I appreciate blogs like yours! Thanks for sharing, and I’m a new Fan!
God Bless!

Welcome to my journey! I would love to get your thoughts on my posts. We all have our limitations as to how much we can travel, so how nice it is that through other people’s experiences we can go everywhere around the world.
So very TRUE! I will be sure to let you know in your “Comment Section” my honest thoughts & feelings ! *Cat*
Thanks, I appreciate that!

Hello!
Just wanted to say how glad I am to have come across your site. This blog is easily one of the most interesting, informative, and well-put sites I’ve seen in awhile. Kudos, and looking forward to future posts! 🙂
What a fascinating blog this looks – and what a fascinating life you two live out there. As a former geography teacher, I’m always interested in information from countries around the world – although I haven’t yet been to anywhere in South America – and I also love to cook. Two very good reasons for me to follow this great blog of yours. I’m really looking forward to reading your posts.
I hope that as you read about Colombia you’ll decide to visit – it’s a marvelous country (with lots of delicious treats to eat).
It looks wonderful. We’ve never been anywhwere in South America, but who knows where we’ll get to in the next few years. Being retired has definite advantages.
I found your blog fascinating. I’m making an effort to improve my photography skills and have already learned a lot from your blog. Thanks for sharing such great information!
Gosh, I really appreciate your kind words Karen. I will be looking forward to your photos. Thanks.
And I look forward to learning more from your photos!

Thanks. I am enjoying all your cooking tips and insights.
